The SSC Stenographer examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to recruit and select candidates for the position of Stenographer in the various departments of the Central Government.
The successful applicant is placed in Group C and Group D Non-Gazetted posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India through the SSC Stenographer examination.

Candidate Criteria for the SSC Stenographer 2022 Examination:
- Applicants for Grade C should be between the ages of 18 and 30.
- Applicants for Grade D must be between the ages of 18 and 27. The date of birth will be based on documents from high school or equivalent.
- The applicant must have completed 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent level of schooling/HSC from a recognized board or university.
- Applicants who pass the Computer Based Examination and the Skill Test must produce all relevant certificates in original, such as mark sheets, provisional certificates, etc., for completion of the 12th standard or equivalent examination, as proof of having acquired the minimum educational qualification.
Nationality requirement: Applicants for SSC MTS must be an Indian citizen, a subject of Bhutan, a subject of Nepal, a Tibetan refugee (who arrived in India before January 1, 1962), or a person of Indian origin (who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, Vietnam, or other countries) to set a permanent residence in India.
If an applicant is not an Indian citizen, he or she must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Indian government in his or her favor; otherwise, the offer of appointment will be withdrawn.
Applicable Fees: The application fees for the students belonging to the General and OBC categories are Rs 100 while fees are exempted for SC/ST/ PH/ Female.
The selection process for SSC Stenographer is categorized into two stages:
Computer-Based Test (CBT): It consists of Multiple Choice Questions. Both English and Hindi will be used in the examinations (except for the English Language section). Each question is worth one mark, upon each incorrect response 0.25 marks will be deducted.
Skill Test: As part of the Stenography recruiting process, candidates are assessed on their typing speed per minute in India as well as their English language skills. One must be able to write at least 100 words per minute to pass this exam. This exam is only available to candidates who have passed the computer-based exam.
